Moonstruck (1987)

I am not entirely sure what happened to me...so I am just going to start by listing some of the components of this film and I believe they will speak for my bemusement:

1.) Cher is in this movie
2.) Nicolas Cage is in this movie
3.) Cher and Nicolas Cage are in a movie together
4.) Nicolas Cage plays a man who lost a hand to a bread slicer who also fancies the opera
5.) They are all playing Brooklyn Italians (aka my family)
6.) Cher and Nicolas Cage fall in love in the movie

You know I think I liked it....but only really because it exists. I would like to thank the world for giving me a movie with all the above pieces. Should this have ever been nominated for best picture? For all the above reasons: no. The acting is appalling (minus Olympia Dukakis; she is actually quite a good character actress), the shooting is mediocre and it is funny for all the wrong reasons. Also it's a romantic comedy...I almost always hate romantic comedies.

Overall: I think everyone should see this film. It has Cher AND Nicolas Cage, but if you want to watch the truly funny version instead go watch My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Happy Watching!
